KDE How-To - Adding To The Menu

Adding items to the KDE Menu is a little trickier than adding items to your panel, but once you understand a little of what is going on it isn't too hard.  The first thing you should understand is only root can add/edit the main menu.  The average user can only edit a folder called 'Personal'.

  1. Open up the Menu Editor (See below) under KMenu - Utilities - Menu Editor
  2. Create a new menu item
  3. (Root Only) Drag N Drop menu item to main menu (see below)
  4. Save, Click on disk icon, or use menu under File - Save
  5. 1. Start Menu Editor

2a - create Menu Item by hand

2a - create Menu Item by hand

2b - create Menu Item by Drag N Drop

2b - create Menu Item by Drag N Drop

    3. Add to main menu - Drag N Drop

As a average user you will only be able to add menu items to the KMenu - Personal menu folder.
