single server workstations....

I'm not privy to the terminology....but I would like information
on how to setup up a system with a single linux server (each "client"
would have its own copy of the operating system, I suppose) and share the
/home filesystem and all of the "standard" services like mail and
printing.

To elaborate, each user would have a single home directory on a
server machine and the "standard" system services would be transparent to
the client. I know that I'd have to nfs mount the /home directory from
the server, but what I'm not clear on is how to make the system services
transparent, e.g. does one nfs mount the /var/spool/mail directory, for
example, to obtain mail? If not, how does a user on a particular
client obtain their mail without forwarding it to the client or logging
into the server -- without using pop or imap?

If someone knows a HOWTO that describes this or has setup such a
system, I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks in Advance,

Jeff
