System install on external disk?

It seems like this should work, but I've never actually done it.
Is there any reason I can't have an external disk (sdc) hold the
operating system? Other than giving that location during the installation
procedure, are there any other tricks I'll need to know? Note that there
are disks sda and sdb on this system. This has to be a 5.0.2 install.
Don't ask why I have to do this, it's a long story.
