Everything should work both via NFS and CDROM install.
It should be noted that this is *NOT* for installing laptops! You'll have
to get the "real" Red Hat boot.img to use with the supp.img if you want to
install it on a laptop. There are 2 problems with this: you will NOT get any
of the modifications we've made for the desktops nor will you be able to do
an "Everything" install because there are packages that contain files that we
have created that conflict with other packages - this is by design!
Descriptions are provided for non-standard packages, the others you should be
able to figure out.
Have at it, and let us know if there are problems.
It should be noted that CDFonline, FOCUS, and RIP installs will not be complete
because they are missing the <workgroup>-tag files (I'll make these early next
week) so they won't have any of the post-rpm installation procedures performed.

Fermi-created added packages:
zz_acrowrapper
There is an extremely subtle interaction between the Motif 2.x in Netscape and
Motif 1.2 in Acroread. This fixes the problem.
To use Acroread with Netscape, click on "Edit -> Preferences -> Navigator ->
Applications." Then select "Portable Document Format" and click on "Edit..."
Select the "Application" radio button and add this entry in the field:
/bin/acroread %s
Click on "Ok" and everything should work as advertised.
* zz_authdir
Somehow the directory /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/authdir wasn't included in the
XFree86 package. This is an empty directory and needs to exist for tcl/tk to
function happily.
* zz_emacs_load_edt
This file load /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/default.el which has
(load "edt") in it.
* zz_fermi-redhat-release
Fermi Red Hat Linux release
* zz_fsck_change
Linux machines are very stable and rarely require rebooting. As such the
amount
of time between fsck's, which usually runs every 20 times a filesystem is run,
can be months. This creates a file called /fsckoptions which specifies that
fsck should be run the first time a reboot occurs after the 1st of the month.
* zz_inetd_change
This package will comment out entries in /etc/inetd.conf, thus it removes
several services which may be vulnerable to attack via the internet.
The original file will be saved as /etc/inetd.conf.rpmsave.
It comments out all entries except for telnet, ftp, shell, and login.
* zz_linux_time.h_fix
The files /usr/include/time.h and /usr/include/linux/time.h both define
a structure called timespec. Both use blocking macros to insure that the
structure is only defined once, no matter what. Unfortunately, they use
DIFFERENT blocking macros. This change to <linux/time.h> adapts it to use the
same convention as <time.h>, which appears more complicated as well as more
advanced in development. This file may require re-installation or rechecking
after new kernel code is installed. linux_time.h should be installed as
/usr/include/linux/time.h.
* zz_tcp_wrappers_change
This package will add entries in /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny which
are Fermi specific. By limiting access to certain services to Fermi sites
only, it increases security.
Specifically, we disallow everyone outside of .fnal.gov all service on the
machine and allow virtually everything within .fnal.gov domain.
This is what /etc/hosts.deny looks like:
ALL: ALL
This is what /etc/hosts.deny looks like
portmap: 131.225.0.0/255.255.0.0
rpc.mountd: 131.225.
sshd: .fnal.gov
ALL: .fnal.gov
* zz_xntp3_change
This package configures the xntp3 time daemon correctly for use at Fermilab.
It
sets the initial time from the nameservers (131.225.8.120 and 131.225.17.150)
and configures xntpd to listen to time broadcasts from the local router of the
subdomain that the machine is on.
Both the /etc/ntp.conf and /etc/rc.d/init.d/xntpd will be saved with a suffix
of .rpmsave.
* autorpm-1.8-1.noarch.rpm
AutoRPM is a program that can do any combination of the following: mirror RPMs
from an FTP site, keep installed RPMs consistent with an FTP site or local
directory, and keep installed RPMs in a cluster or network of systems consis-
tent. It is highly flexible and even contains a very nice, menu-driven
Interactive-Install mode.
NOTE: AutoRPM will not do anything unless you create an /etc/autorpm.conf
See /etc/autorpm.conf.sample for an example config...
Mailing Lists Now Available, See
/usr/doc/autorpm-*/README
* perl-libnet-1.0605-2.noarch.rpm
libnet is a collection of Perl modules which provides a simple
and consistent programming interface (API) to the client side
of various protocols used in the internet community.
