Hello,

I think its fair to say that CDF will wait until RH-6.0 before officially
upgrading our OS and software development support for Linux. We decided that
the effort to upgrade would only be worth the SMP support features in kernel
2.2, which is not easy to upgrade to "by hand".

Does anyone know what RH-6.0 will likely contain? Presumably kernel 2.2.X,
but what about version numbers on egcs and glibc2? Any hint yet at a RH-6.0
release timeframe?

Thanks,
Rob K.

PS. We do have some machines with upgraded versions of the kernel (2.0.36),
ld, binutils, and/or libstdc++, which (w/security updates) makes them similar
to RH-5.1/2 systems anyway. This is not required for general CDF Offline
software development, however. It is to support the use of Applixware 4.41
(which was certified for RH-5.1, not RH-5.0) and the latest egcs RPMs.
