RE: Linu Attack signature

We ask that all linux-users scan their systems for possible signs of
attack on the sysklogd exploitation. Some of the signs are:

1) In /var/log/* files, you will see something like:

Jan 17 14:56:05 kernel: Warning: possible SYN flood from 200.241.55.5 on
131.225.167.36:111. Sending cookies.
Jan 17 14:56:08 mountd[252]: Unauthorized access by NFS client 200.241.55.5.
Jan 17 14:56:08
Jan 17 14:56:08 syslogd: Cannot glue message parts together
Jan 17 14:56:08 28>Jan 17 14:56:08 mountd[252]: Blocked attempt of 200.241.55.5

2) In /etc/passwd, you may see an entry like:

moof::0:0::/:/bin/bash

If either of these signs are present, please remove your system from
the network and contact computer_security@fnal.gov immediately.

The absence of these signs DOES NOT mean you are safe. Computer_security
should be contacted if anything suspicious is noted.
